In a rare display of public emotion, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attended a somber memorial ceremony this week, visibly mourning the soldiers his regime has deployed to Russia’s side in the Ukraine war.

A 30-second video circulating online shows Kim embracing grieving troops and gazing solemnly at portraits of the fallen, his face etched with what supporters call profound empathy.

North Korea began sending over 11,000 personnel to aid Russia in late 2024, with reports indicating thousands have died in the conflict.

Kim’s appearance underscores a deep, personal bond with his “martyred” fighters— a level of visible grief that some online voices claim is unmatched among world leaders.

“Such love for soldiers is rare,” one viral post noted, pointedly asking: “Have you ever seen Donald Trump cry for his soldiers?”
