The gunmen brutally stormed the church during an evening service last Tuesday, opening fire and forcing dozens of congregants—including the pastor—into the surrounding forest.
Kwara State Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi confirmed the grim toll, stating, “Two bodies were recovered at the scene,” while security forces and vigilantes responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to flee.
Community leader Olori Eta of Eruku, Chief Olusegun Olukotun, whose four relatives were among those abducted, described the chilling ordeal: “I was inside the church with five family members but managed to escape with one of my wards through a window at about 6:06 p.m.”
He revealed kidnappers have been contacting families, grouping the victims “according to their relations,” and demanding ransom, with calls for N100 million per person reported.
Despite the ongoing trauma and fear, the church resumed service on Sunday, showing remarkable resilience.
In a video circulating widely on social media, a pastor inspired the congregation: “A Christian must not fear death because Jesus has given you eternal life. Anywhere you are, don’t stop believing in Him, because the promise is bound on you.”
