Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, led the enforcement team to Blenco Supermarket in Lekki as part of a broader strategy to ensure compliance with the state’s directive aimed at phasing out SUP.

In a statement posted on X, the Commissioner highlighted the urgency and scope of the operation.

“Our Enforcement Team today visited Blenco Supermarket in Lekki to enforce the ban on Single Use Plastics (SUP). This action is part of our wider efforts to ensure compliance with the State’s directive on phasing out SUP, which poses serious environmental risks and worsens flooding across Lagos,” Wahab wrote.

The enforcement team also visited other key retail locations including Blend and Temple Hill Supermarkets in Ire-Akari, Jendol Supermarket in Jakande Estate, Ejigbo, and Lastprize and Reno supermarkets on Liasu Road in Idimu, demonstrating the government’s commitment to a statewide crackdown.

Wahab assured the public that the government’s efforts will be continuous and collaborative.

“We will continue to monitor, enforce, and work with businesses to adopt sustainable alternatives that safeguard our environment,” he affirmed.

The Lagos State Government’s move is part of a larger environmental policy to reduce plastic pollution, mitigate flooding, and promote sustainable living across the state—steps that align with the #CleanerLagos and #GreaterLagos initiatives.
