In an awareness video shared on social media, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, reminded residents that “styrofoam and other single use plastics are banned in Lagos State.”

Wahab described the policy as “a deliberate policy to protect our drainage systems, our waterways, public health, and the environment we all depend on,” stressing that single-use plastics are “a major contributor to flooding, environmental degradation, and blocked drainage channels across the state.”

He urged “residents, vendors, manufacturers, and food businesses to comply fully by adopting approved, reusable, and environmentally friendly alternatives.”

The commissioner further stated that “enforcement will continue, and defaulters will be sanctioned in line with the law,” adding that “a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Lagos is a shared responsibility,” which he framed under the administration’s #AGreaterLagosRising agenda.
