The Lagos State Government has intensified its efforts to enforce environmental standards by demolishing unauthorised structures at the Oko-Oba Abattoir located in the Agege area of the state.

This move comes after the facility was indefinitely closed due to ongoing sanitation violations.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the demolition on Monday via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The post states, “As part of clean-up exercise, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial commenced the removal of illegal structures built on drainage setback inside Oko Oba Abattoir.”
According to Wahab, the demolition is part of efforts to restore order, enhance sanitation, and prevent disease outbreaks by ensuring proper waste management and unimpeded stormwater drainage.
The enforcement follows the recent shutdown of the Oko-Oba Abattoir over serious environmental violations, including unsanitary meat processing practices, indiscriminate disposal of animal waste, and obstruction of public drainage channels.
