The operation, directed by LAWMA’s Managing Director, targeted the area near the Agege Total Bus Stop along Old Abeokuta Road, resulting in the apprehension of seven individuals involved in the unlawful activity.
Wahab confirmed the outcome, stating, “As a direct result of this operation, seven individuals were apprehended, and all identified blackspots were effectively sustained.
“The apprehended individuals have been transferred to the office of the CM of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), where they will remain in custody until Monday to facilitate the continuation of legal proceedings.”
The illegal dumping site has since been completely neutralised.
The names of those arrested are, Vera Titus, Abiola Ayorinde, Mojisola Yusuf, Qudri Babatunde, Obi Mebel, Mustapha Abdullahi and Azeez Oluwatobi.
This enforcement action is part of LAWMA’s broader commitment to uphold Lagos State’s Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, which prohibits waste disposal in undesignated locations.
LAWMA has intensified surveillance and enforcement operations across Lagos to combat indiscriminate waste disposal and maintain environmental sustainability, with the Managing Director emphasizing that “ignorance of the law is not an excuse” and offenders will face the full wrath of the law.
