Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has significantly boosted the welfare of security personnel at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) by raising their monthly salaries from N18,800 to N80,000.
The landmark decision also involved upgrading their employment status from casual security guards to formal adhoc workers, affording them better recognition and benefits.
This transformative move came after a courageous security guard at a public meeting spoke out about the challenges and hardships faced by the guards, appealing directly to the governor for improved conditions.
However, Makinde responded by not only addressing their remuneration but also professionalising their employment terms, a development that is expected to substantially improve the guards’ morale and livelihood.
