Manchester United cruised to a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday, extending their resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick to four straight wins.
Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring in the 38th minute, slotting home after a slick move that exposed Spurs’ defence.
Bruno Fernandes added gloss to the scoreline with a composed finish in the 81st minute, capping a dominant display.
The game tilted decisively in United’s favour early on, when Tottenham’s Cristian Romero was sent off in the 29th minute for a reckless tackle.
Reduced to 10 men, Spurs struggled as Carrick’s side controlled 68% possession and peppered their goal with chances.
Carrick, who stepped in on January 13 following a mid-season coaching shake-up, has transformed United’s fortunes with smart tactical tweaks—prioritising high pressing and quick transitions.
This result keeps them firmly in the hunt for European spots.
Mbeumo, United’s £40 million summer signing from Brentford, starred again with his third goal in four games, proving a bargain as the team’s emerging attacking threat.
Tottenham, meanwhile, slumped to their third loss in five, with their side leaking goals at an alarming rate.
