NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi detailed the incident on X, revealing that the young man caught was an unsuspecting first-time traveler.
According to Babafemi, “An ‘egbon adugbo’ who lives abroad and came to Nigeria on ‘vacation’ asked the unsuspecting young man who is traveling to the country where ‘egbon adugbo’ lives to help go with one of his bags so he can pick it up from him when he arrives three days later.”
The ‘egbon adugbo’ even assisted the young man at the airport by seeing him off and helping him check in.
When NDLEA officers searched the bag, they found illicit drugs concealed under the crayfish.
The young man appeared “confused and perplexed” during the search and later confessed that he was not the owner of the bag.
NDLEA operatives promptly arrested the ‘egbon adugbo,’ who was still at the airport.
Babafemi issued a cautionary note, “Morals: Not every act of kindness is pure and genuine. NEVER 👎 accept to help anyone carry a bag you didn’t pack or know its contents.”
