As 2025 draws to a close, Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has issued a stark warning to the public after intercepting parcels laced with illicit drugs disguised as everyday items.

Officers uncovered heroin concealed within local black soap bars and high-end designer clothing, highlighting the sophisticated tactics used by smugglers targeting international travelers.

In a viral social media post, NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi captioned the exposure video with a urgent advisory, “As the year winds down, let’s remain vigilant, careful and discerning so we don’t enter the new year behind bars on account of our kindness.”

He emphasised the risks of helping others deliver packages, especially abroad, adding, “No matter how well packaged or factory fitted a parcel 📦 may look, don’t help anyone, however close you’re, to deliver to another person or location especially if you’re traveling abroad and you have no means to establish the content of such parcel.”

The videos shared by Babafemi show NDLEA officers at work, slicing open seemingly innocuous black soap to reveal hidden drug compartments and unpacking designer garments stuffed with contraband.

NDLEA has ramped up operations amid the holiday travel rush, urging Nigerians to verify package contents personally to avoid unwittingly becoming drug mules.
