The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a notorious ex-convict and three cargo agents after seizing 75 parcels of cocaine weighing 1.50 kilograms, cleverly concealed in factory-sealed cold-water starch sachets bound for the United Kingdom at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja.
In a statement released Sunday by NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the agency detailed the operation that unfolded on December 20 and 21, 2025.
“A notorious drug trafficker, Nwobodo Basil, previously convicted of dealing in 30.10kg methamphetamine in 2023, has again been arrested by operatives of the NDLEA following the seizure of 75 parcels of cocaine weighing 1.50 kilograms concealed in factory-sealed sachets of cold-water starch heading to the United Kingdom at the export shed of the MMIA Ikeja, Lagos,” it reads.
The three cargo agents – Jubrin Firdausi Hassana, Kuku Daniel Oluwasegun, and Igwe Chioma Jane – were nabbed on Saturday, December 20, at the airport’s export shed.
Further probes led officers to 37-year-old Nwobodo Chidiebere Basil, the alleged mastermind, who was apprehended the next day at a popular relaxation center in Ikeja during a date with his girlfriend.
NDLEA records reveal Nwobodo’s prior conviction in May 2023 for trafficking 30.10kg of methamphetamine hidden in powdered custard containers destined for London.
He faced charges at the Federal High Court (FHC/L/337C/2023), receiving a five-year sentence or ₦7 million fine plus community service starting December 4, 2023.
He opted for the fine and quickly resumed his criminal activities.
NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) praised officers across MMIA Lagos, Tincan, Seme, Ekiti, Edo, Cross River, FCT, Gombe, and Taraba commands for their vigilance.
He urged sustained professionalism, especially during the festive season, to combat drug trafficking.
