The agency seized a significant quantity of cocaine cleverly concealed within aso ebi fila (male caps) and gele (female headgear), commonly worn during cultural and social events.

The NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, took to X (formerly Twitter) to warn the public about this dangerous trend while revealing the latest seizure.

He wrote, “In case you’re asked to help take as part of your luggage to Europe or elsewhere any aso ebi fila and gele (traditional male cap and female headgear), the latest seizure of cocaine concealed in such materials uncovered by @ndlea_nigeria will make you think twice. Take a look 😳”

The NDLEA’s discovery highlights the evolving tactics employed by drug traffickers, exploiting cultural items to evade detection.

However, the agency enjoined travelers to exercise caution and avoid carrying unfamiliar items for others, especially when traveling internationally.

This latest seizure underscores the ongoing commitment of the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and protect Nigeria’s borders from illicit substances.

The agency continues to call on citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
