The initiative convened a broad coalition of stakeholders, including government officials, security agencies, civil society organisations, and emergency response teams.
In a statement made available for Dailyeconomy on Monday, NEMA highlighted the critical importance of multi-sector collaboration and public safety consciousness.
“This programme brought together key players such as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security and Safety, representing the Governor, alongside NURTW, NSCDC, FRSC, NOA, Red Cross, federal and state fire services, Edo SEMA, CSOs, and NEMA/NYSC EMVs,” the statement read.
The Head of NEMA’s Benin Office, Kenoma Ojuederie, emphasised the need for strict adherence to safety protocols by tanker operators.
“We call on all tanker operators to comply rigorously with safety guidelines. Continuous public education is vital to preventing tragic fire incidents,” he said.
The programme featured expert presentations from the Federal Fire Service, FRSC, and the Ministry of Public Security and Safety, offering valuable insights into fire safety practices, emergency response strategies, and preventive measures.
A key highlight was a hands-on community sensitisation event held in Ologbo, along the Benin–Sapele expressway, where tanker drivers and local residents received practical training on fire safety awareness.
“This initiative reaffirms NEMA’s unwavering commitment to disaster risk reduction through stakeholder collaboration, capacity building, and grassroots enlightenment,” the agency concluded.
