Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams struck decisive blows in the second half to dismantle the Desert Foxes, extending Nigeria’s unbeaten run and setting up a mouthwatering clash with tournament hosts Morocco on Wednesday in Rabat.
The first half ended goalless despite Nigeria’s high-pressing dominance, with the Super Eagles creating several chances—including a goal-line clearance that denied them an opener.
Algeria struggled to respond, failing to muster a single shot on target throughout the match.
Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, rising highest to power home a header from Bruno Onyemaechi’s pinpoint cross.
Ten minutes later, Adams sealed the win with a cool finish after rounding goalkeeper Luca Zidane, assisted by the tireless Osimhen, who earned Man of the Match honours for his goal, assist, and all-around menace.
Nigeria controlled possession and racked up an expected goals (xG) tally around 3.0, while their defense secured a clean sheet.
The only blemish was Wilfred Ndidi’s yellow card, ruling him out of the semi-final through suspension.
Post-match tensions flared with confrontations after the final whistle, but the Eagles’ performance drew widespread praise for its clinical edge.
This triumph follows Nigeria’s 4-0 thrashing of Mozambique in the Round of 16, cementing their status as title contenders in a tournament marked by their attacking flair and defensive steel.
