The individual, identified as Amori Sunday, also known as Hiram, aged 30, from Arapase Compound in Ilesa, admitted during questioning that he belongs to the Aye (Black Axe) confraternity.
He stated that he was initiated into the group in 2018 in Port Harcourt by someone named Sheon.
Initially denying any cult membership, Sunday eventually admitted to being involved after continued interrogation. He also revealed that he had previously been detained by an anti-corruption unit and served a three-month prison term before his release.
Regarding his involvement with the Amotekun Corps, the suspect explained that his father, Amori Damilare, assisted him in obtaining the necessary gear, including uniforms. He added that he had been “repenting” from cult activities prior to joining the security team.
The confession has sparked public outrage, with calls for the Osun State Government to review Amotekun’s recruitment procedures to prevent individuals with criminal backgrounds from infiltrating the corps.
Osun Amotekun officials have yet to issue a statement as investigations continue.
