Renowned actor, Pete Edochie, has asserted that Igbo men encounter difficulties in politics primarily because they struggle with betrayal.

During a recent interview with Afia TV, Edochie elaborated that Igbo people are often quick to sever connections with those who have deceived them.
Although this trait stems from a cultural emphasis on loyalty and trust, it complicates their ability to cultivate the long-term, sometimes opportunistic, relationships essential for success in politics.
Edochie linked this to the Igbo cultural value system, highlighting how the prioritization of loyalty and trust can impede the political careers of Igbo politicians, who may find it challenging to sustain strategic partnerships in the competitive political arena.
Edochie remarked, “An Igbo man is not a good politician. And I will tell you why, people who are used to politics or the treachery that characterised politics, can overlook a lot of things. But the Igbo man is not constituted to condole treachery a second time. If you hurt the Igbo man once in politics, he will never give you an opportunity to hurt him again. He will recoil himself. That’s the average Igbo man.
“The Igbo man is really not constituted to sustain political treachery. The moment you exhibit treachery in your involvement with an Igbo man, they cut you off. That’s it.”
