Contrary to widespread social media claims, the Nasarawa State Police Command has declared as false the report that two pupils of St. Peter’s Academy in Rukubi were abducted by kidnappers.

The police statement on Friday revealed that “an unverified report filtered in alleging that two pupils were abducted while engaging in sporting activities.”

Responding swiftly, the state Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed deployed combined police and military personnel to the school.

On investigation, it was found that the pupils “had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers.”

The school’s proprietor confirmed the alarm was false, and police assured the public that “the general area continues to be closely monitored to forestall any breach of security.”

The police urged public to “disregard the circulating report as mere rumour unworthy of publication as factual news” and emphasise the importance of verifying information before dissemination to avoid misleading the public.
