Video: Police detain officer seen assaulting young man in viral video

A member of the Nigeria Police Force was recorded on video harassing an unidentified young man in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja.

In the now-viral clip, the officer was seen verbally abusing the young man, who stated that he was merely trying to assist his neighbour during a conflict.

The officer claimed that the young man had insulted him, which he argued justified his aggressive actions and his demand for the man to accompany him to the “area command.”

In response to public outcry over the video, the Police Complaint Response Unit announced through a post on their official X (formerly Twitter) account that the officer had been apprehended.

The unit encouraged the victim to visit their office and provide further information to support the investigation.

In their post on X, the Police unit stated, “Dear #chude__, the officer in the viral video have been identified and arrested, the authorities concerned have been contacted.

“We encourage the complainant (victim) to come forward for further investigation. Thank you 🙏.”
