Pope Leo XIV has issued his strongest appeal yet for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing US-Israel war against Iran, urging world leaders to choose dialogue over weapons amid escalating hatred, violence, and the forced displacement of more than one million people across the region.
Speaking from the papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo on Wednesday, the pontiff highlighted the human toll of the conflict, which has deepened divisions and caused widespread suffering.
“Let us pursue peace through dialogue rather than weapons,” he implored, invoking Catholic doctrine to rally the Vatican’s 1.3 billion global followers against funding further violence.
