Furious Shiite demonstrators have stormed the United States consulate in Karachi on Sunday, protesting a recent US-Israel attack that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Pakistani security forces responded with live fire, killing at least six protesters and wounding dozens more, Dailyeconomy gathered.
Video footage circulating shows hundreds of protesters, many dressed in traditional black attire, hurling rocks, Molotov cocktails, and other objects at the consulate’s perimeter barriers.
Chants of “Death to America” echoed as crowds attempted to breach the gates before police dispersed them with tear gas and gunfire.
The violence erupted hours after news broke of Khamenei’s assassination, which Iranian officials have blamed on a joint US-Israeli operation.
Casualty figures vary, with local hospitals reporting 6-9 deaths and over 50 injuries.
