Russian President, Vladimir Putin has criticised Western leaders on Thursday for their lack of response to the ongoing US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, contrasting it with their vocal outrage over Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
In a recent address, Putin mocked the West’s “lovers of the epistolary arts,” stating, “They signed all sorts of letters at the start of the Ukraine conflict. Yet these lovers of the epistolary arts haven’t written anything about the current tragic events.”
The remarks highlight what Putin described as blatant double standards.
Now in its 31st day, the US-Israeli strikes have reportedly killed over 3,200 civilians and sparked a global energy crisis, with oil prices surging 40% since February 2026.
Putin pointed to the flood of open letters and condemnations from Western figures following Ukraine’s invasion, none of which have materialised for the Iran conflict.
