He called the allegations “laughable” and “a total lie,” stating, “Russia has never intended to attack Europe; this is ridiculous.”
Putin condemned the claims as baseless propaganda, dismissing them as “nonsense” and a scare tactic used by Western politicians to intimidate their citizens and secure additional military funding.
He said these allegations are part of an information war being waged against Russia and emphasised Moscow’s readiness to formally declare in writing that it has no aggressive plans towards Europe if reassurances are required.
Putin further accused some European governments of fabricating threats of a Russian attack on Eastern European countries to justify increased military spending.
He described such rhetoric as “utter nonsense” and intended only to frighten people to bear financial burdens related to defense.
This clarification was made against the backdrop of ongoing tensions following the Ukraine conflict, where Putin stressed Russia’s interest does not lie in confronting Europe but maintaining security interests.
During his speech at the CSTO summit, alongside leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and others, Putin also addressed the broader geopolitical context, underscoring that accusations of Russian aggression towards Europe are unfounded and part of a larger hybrid war campaign by some Western actors to destabilize Russia.
He urged for a realistic understanding of Russia’s position and intentions, asserting the country’s call for peace and dialogue.
