Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced BRICS nations are poised to launch joint educational and investment programs in biotechnology, framing it as a step toward equitable global progress.
Speaking at the Future Technologies Forum 2026 in Moscow, Putin emphasised fairness in tech access, “Equal access to future technologies, rather than privileges for the chosen few, are the prerequisite for the fair development of civilization.
“Which is why BRICS and other groups, and as part of bilateral cooperation, we stand ready to develop joint scientific educational investment programmes in biotech for the sake of all humanity.”
The pledge aligns with the forum’s bio-economy theme and builds on recent Russia-India healthcare agreements, as well as the BRICS+ Universities Association’s cross-border research initiatives.
These programs aim to speed up biotech breakthroughs, such as advanced disease detection and genetically modified crops, while boosting emerging economies.
