Putin pushback against U.S. sanctions imposed after its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Putin argues that freezing Russian assets and restricting dollar access has accelerated a shift toward multipolar finance, with BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and new members—ramping up trade in local currencies.

Putin’s words come amid BRICS’ expanding influence, including recent local-currency payment systems that sidestep SWIFT.
