A disturbing video circulated online shows Iheamnacho being violently beaten by unidentified men who demanded he “sign that thing” while striking him with canes.
It was gathered that the attack occurred at the council secretariat, which has since been shut down and taken over by police.
Iheamnacho’s purported resignation letter, dated Friday, June 20, 2025, stated his intention to return to private life and expressed gratitude to the government and people of Ahoada East.
However, the letter contained suspicious errors, including a resignation end date extending to July 20, despite being dated in June.
The incident has raised serious concerns about political intimidation and violence in the state, with observers suggesting the forced resignation attempt reflects deeper tensions within Rivers State’s local government administration.
