President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has condemned a sweeping Russian assault on Ukrainian regions overnight into Saturday, describing it as one of the largest attacks yet on civilian and energy infrastructure.

In a statement released today, Zelenskyy detailed the scale of the onslaught, “Overnight, Russia carried out a massive attack on our regions, launching over 370 attack drones and 21 missiles of various types. Kyiv and the region, as well as the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions, were targeted.”

The strikes inflicted heavy damage, particularly in Kharkiv, where a maternity hospital, a dormitory for displaced persons, a medical college, and residential buildings were hit. “Dozens of people have been reported injured, including a child,” Zelenskyy noted, adding that one person had tragically lost their life in the capital area, with his condolences extended to the family.

Energy facilities around Kyiv bore the brunt of the attack, underscoring Russia’s ongoing campaign to cripple Ukraine’s power grid ahead of winter.

“All necessary services are now working at the sites of the Russian strikes, eliminating all consequences: rescuers, medical teams, municipal services, energy workers, and repair crews. I thank every person involved,” the president said.

He also praised air defense forces, “I am also grateful to all the air defense personnel who repelled the attack.”

Zelenskyy issued a urgent call for international support, warning that such aggression demands immediate retaliation and bolstering of defenses.

“Every such Russian strike on our energy infrastructure proves that there must be no delays in supplying air defenses. We must ensure full implementation of everything agreed with President Trump in Davos regarding air defense. I thank all those who help protect lives,” he added.
