The United States Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth has delivered a sharp rebuke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, mocking the failure of Russian-supplied air defense systems during a flawless U.S. operation to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro in Caracas.

Speaking at a press briefing with the podium emblazoned “Department of War,” Hegseth recounted the mission’s success. “And then we saw three nights ago in downtown Caracas, Venezuela, as nearly 200 of our greatest Americans went downtown in Caracas. “Seems those Russian air defenses didn’t quite work so well, did they? They grabbed an indicted individual wanted by American justice and supported law enforcement without a single American being killed,” he said. The raid, involving elite U.S. personnel, targeted Maduro, who faces U.S. indictments on narcoterrorism and corruption charges.
