The Nigerian Senate has strongly condemned the sudden and steep rise in domestic airfares, some reportedly increasing by over 300 to 400 percent.

In response, it has summoned the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, alongside key industry stakeholders, to appear before the Senate Committee on Aviation for urgent discussions.
Senator Patrick C. Obieze voiced the Senate’s deep concern noting, “The Senate condemns the sudden abysmal rise or increase in airfares and resolves to invite all relevant stakeholders, including the Minister of Aviation in the aviation sector.”
Senate President Godswill Akpabio emphasised the need for rapid intervention.
“The matter should be addressed immediately astronomical increase in airfare,” he said.
Senator Wamakko Magatakarda Aliyu highlighted the urgency to mitigate the exploitative price hike, stating, “We have moved the motion that review this abysmal increase over 300, 400 percent in the cost of aviation tickets to avoid exploitation of Nigerians and disruption of travel plans.”
Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola of Ogun West also expressed strong support for the motion, underscoring the widespread concern within the Senate.
