“We got him,” said Gov. Spencer Cox at a news conference.
He explained that a family member of Robinson helped turn him in after Robinson indicated he had committed the crime.
“Mr. Robinson had been booked into Utah County jail and we believe he acted alone,” Cox added.
Law enforcement officials confirmed they have physical evidence linking Robinson to the shooting, including messages on the Discord app about “retrieving a rifle from a drop point.”
The FBI recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle near the crime scene.
President Donald Trump, who had learned of the arrest shortly before going on air, said on ‘Fox and Friends,’ “A person is in custody. A minister involved with law enforcement contacted the suspect’s father.”
Robinson was identified after video showed a man running across a roof at the campus, then disappearing into nearby woods where the rifle was found.
Authorities believe the suspect blended in due to his college-age appearance.
Gov. Cox confirmed state prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty. The FBI had earlier offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
This arrest comes after two others were detained and later released on the day of the shooting.
The investigation continues as the community seeks justice for Kirk, a prominent conservative figure and close ally of President Trump.
