Video: “They Know the repercussions,” Defence Minister speaks on foiled coup plotters

Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has issued a warning to the 16 arrested military officers implicated in a foiled 2025 coup plot against President Bola Tinubu, stressing they fully grasp the dire consequences ahead.
In a recent interview, Musa could be heard saying, “The coup plotters know the consequences of their actions. You know, you know the repercussions when one takes such actions. So I’m sure they’ve made up their minds. They must have considered their family.”
The plot, allegedly led by Colonel Mohammed Ma’aji, involved plans to seize key installations and purchase 32 vehicles for operations.
Military announcements confirm the suspects face court-martials under Nigeria’s treason laws, which carry potential death penalties.
However, Musa assured a “free and fair” process, with the officers allowed their own counsels.
Musa added, “The government is ensuring that the family, they are treated fairly the wives and children need to be looked after.
“But the main perpetrators already know their repercussions with the action. I’m sure they’re ready to face it.”
