Emphasizing the need to bolster frontline security at today’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the State House, Abuja, he instructed officials to coordinate with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to facilitate the seamless replacement of these officers.
President Tinubu stated, “If you have any difficulty as regards security because of the nature of your assignment, contact the IGP and get my clearance. The Minister of Interior should liaise with the IGP to replace those police officers who are on special security duties, so they don’t leave people exposed.”
He urged the Police Affairs Minister and the Interior Ministry to work closely with the IGP and relevant security agencies, including the Civil Defence, to ensure adequate coverage across all security fronts.
The president’s directive highlights a strategic shift aiming at addressing Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges by freeing up police personnel previously tied to VIP protection for more critical security assignments.
