President Bola Tinubu, has pledged renewed efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security apparatus against terrorism during his opening address at the second National Economic Council (NEC) Conference, emphasising the administration’s unwavering commitment to national stability and inclusive growth.
Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Tinubu states, “I am leaving here again to further find means to strengthen our security forces to defeat terrorism, that I promise you, it is what has kept all of us sleepless at night, but I assure you we will win.”
The remarks underscored the pervasive threat keeping leaders awake, while reinforcing optimism for triumph.
The two-day conference, themed “Delivering Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development: The Renewed Hope National Development Plan 2026-2030”, unites 36 state governors, federal and state officials, development partners, and stakeholders to forge policies for resilient economic transformation.
In his full address, Tinubu hailed the NEC—led by Vice President Kashim Shettima—as “a cornerstone of fiscal federalism and economic governance”, spotlighting achievements like boosted FAAC allocations for states, macroeconomic stabilisation, infrastructure pushes in power and transport, and expanded social programs for vulnerable groups, youth, and women.
“The theme of this Conference speaks directly to our national aspirations. It reflects our resolve to move from recovery to transformation, and from narrow growth to one that is inclusive, resilient, and sustainable,” Tinubu stated, framing Nigeria’s challenges—such as poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure gaps—as surmountable through bold reforms and cooperative federalism.
