President Bola Tinubu has pledged unbreakable solidarity with Turkey in the fight against regional instability during a high-stakes bilateral meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara.

Speaking after officials from both nations exchanged nine memoranda of understanding (MoUs), Tinubu highlighted collaborative efforts to tackle terrorism and banditry.

“Nigeria is surrounded by instability and challenges.

“We have discussed efforts at terrorism, how we can defeat the elements of destabilization and banditry, we will work together to achieve that,” said Tinubu.

The agreements, signed on January 27, span defense, trade, media, higher education, and diaspora policy. Both leaders aim to boost bilateral trade from around $2 billion to $5 billion annually, tapping Turkey’s drone expertise and counter-terrorism know-how to shore up Nigeria’s security amid Sahel tensions—without direct military pledges.

Tinubu doubled down on his commitment, assuring partners, “Take it to the bank, you can bet on me that I will be there with you for democracy, freedom and prosperity.”

Ministers from both sides attended the exchange, marking a new chapter in Abuja-Ankara relations as Tinubu eyes enhanced defences against ongoing threats.
