President Donald Trump has left the door cracked open to an unprecedented third term, playfully sidestepping the 22nd Amendment’s two-term limit during what appears to be his ongoing second term in early 2026.
The exchange unfolded when the interviewer pressed, “On January 21st, 2029, do you see any scenario where you are still president?”
Trump responded with characteristic evasion, “I don’t know. It would be interesting, but wouldn’t it be terrible if I agreed with you? If I gave you the answer that you’re looking for, it’d make life so much less exciting, right?
“Would be so much less exciting. I only do this for one reason: Make America great again, and that’s what we’re doing.”
The remarks echo Trump’s long history of norm-testing rhetoric—from 2020 election challenges to vague allusions of extended influence.
