The University of Port Harcourt has awarded Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, an Honorary Doctor of Science degree.

This esteemed accolade is part of the celebrations for the university’s 50th anniversary and its 35th convocation ceremony.
Professor Owunari Georgewill, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, announced the award during a visit to Wike’s residence in Abuja.
The university acknowledged that Wike’s contributions as a former Minister of State for Education were pivotal in the establishment of a Faculty of Law at the institution.
Additionally, he was a strong advocate for the effective separation and expansion of Social Sciences and Humanities into separate faculties.
As Governor of Rivers State, he was also recognized for constructing one of the “finest convocation arenas in West Africa” for the university.
