Preemptive strikes are also not ruled out,” Ghalibaf declared in a video clip broadcast on state media IRIB, directly rebuking Trump’s recent pledge to support anti-regime protesters roiling the country. The tough rhetoric comes amid Iran’s third week of nationwide protests sparked by economic woes and demands for reform since late December 2025. Trump has seized on the unrest as a chance for US intervention to undermine the Islamic Republic, escalating a war of words between Washington and Tehran.
