Rick Swart, the newly appointed U.S. Consul-General, made this statement on Thursday during a reception held in his honor in Lagos.
At the event, Swart underscored the U.S. government’s focus on fostering sustainable development through enhanced trade, investment, and innovation between the two nations.
He pointed out Nigeria’s thriving economy and the entrepreneurial spirit of its youth as significant advantages that present abundant opportunities for partnership.
Swart, representing the U.S. government in 17 southern Nigerian states, is responsible for overseeing initiatives that enhance bilateral relations, which include expanding people-to-people connections and supporting shared security and economic goals.
During his three-year tenure, he pledged to focus on making both nations “safer, stronger, and more prosperous.”
He said: “I look forward to working with U.S. and Nigerian businesses to further unlock that potential.
“Bonnie and I are happy to be here in Lagos, a city that pulses with energy, creativity and ambition.
“We are eager to immerse ourselves in the culture, engage with the people, and work alongside all of you to advance the shared goals of our countries across the 17 states in our consulate region.
“I constantly remind myself that diplomacy is not just a profession, it is a privilege, and I am honoured to serve in this globally-dynamic and influential nation.”
