A video showing President Donald Trump and faith leaders praying in the Oval Office has ignited online controversy, juxtaposed against sharp rhetoric from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio labeling Iran’s leadership “religious fanatic lunatics” just one day earlier.

The 48-second clip captures faith gathering around the Resolute Desk.

Trump sits solemnly with his head bowed as about 20-25 pastors, faith leaders, and officials surround him, many laying hands on his shoulders in an evangelical prayer tradition.

A lead pastor invokes biblical imagery from Exodus 17—where supporters lift Moses’ arms during battle—while praying for divine wisdom, protection for U.S. troops, and national unity “one nation under God.”

“We pray for wisdom from heaven to flood his heart grace and protection over all troops strength to lead our great nation,” the prayer states, ending “in Jesus’ name.”

The White House credits aide Margo Martin for the footage, tying it to Trump’s “America Prays” initiative ahead of the U.S.’s 250th anniversary.

Critics on X highlight the irony of U.S. leaders invoking faith amid war with a nation decried for religious extremism.

Supporters call it authentic spirituality during tense times.
