Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen has delivered a bold rebuke to United States President Donald Trump’s renewed push to acquire the Arctic island, declaring unwavering loyalty to Denmark and its allies.
Standing alongside Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at a joint press conference in Copenhagen’s Mirror Hall, Nielsen stated, “If we have to choose between the USA and Denmark here and now, we choose Denmark. We choose NATO, the Kingdom of Denmark and the EU.”
The defiant words, spoken in English amid Danish flags and ornate decor, came as both leaders rejected US territorial ambitions.
Nielsen, dressed in a casual blue hoodie contrasting Frederiksen’s formal blazer, emphasised Greenland’s “not for sale” stance.
Strategic Stakes in the Arctic
Greenland’s vast rare earth minerals make it crucial for global tech supply chains, drawing US interest to counter Russia and China.
