Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim addressed speculation around his tactical shift from a back three to a back four.

The manager in a press conference on Monday emphasised that it’s a calculated evolution driven by the squad’s readiness rather than external pressure.

Amorim reflected on his arrival last season, noting the challenges of building an identity with limited personnel.

“It’s a process and when I came here in the last season, maybe I didn’t have players to play well but it was at that beginning of this process we are trying build an identity,” he said.

He stressed that the current moment feels different, with the team no longer needing major signings.

The Portuguese coach clarified the decision stems from internal understanding, not fan or media demands.

“We don´t need many new players. But they already know why we’re changing not because you guys or fans pressure us it’s because now we understand the way that you want to play and principles are same. We can change this system,” Amorim explained.

He added optimism about the impact, “And I think, we’re going become a better team. Because when all players return we won’t be playing with three defenders but will improve.”

Amorim warned against frequent changes, which could undermine his authority.

“But then if talk of changing systems all time. I cannot change. The player will know I’m changing for your sake. This is end. This is end for the manager,” he stated firmly.

Instead, he timed the switch strategically, “So, when we are playing well in our system I think that’s a moment to change if it´s better thing to win next game. That’s what we did today.”
