Senate President Godswill Akpabio has instructed his legal team to drop multiple defamation lawsuits, including one against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, signaling an end to feuds that have gripped Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber.

Akpabio made the announcement during a public address, revealing he had nearly nine cases pending against various individuals.

He attributed the decision to spiritual guidance from a priest, which prompted a moment of personal reflection.

“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me, who slandered my name. But I listened to the priest and suddenly realised he was talking to me, so I hereby direct my solicitor to withdraw all lawsuits against them,” Akpabio noted.

The move comes amid heightened tensions in the Senate, where Akpabio has faced accusations of misconduct and authoritarian leadership from opposition voices, including Senator Natasha, known for her vocal criticisms.

Legal battles between the two escalated earlier this year, with suits alleging defamation and character assassination.
