Nollywood actress Abiola Adebayo has responded to the surge of online criticism she encountered after publicly announcing her marriage breakup, appealing to the audience to keep her humanity in mind.

In a video that has been shared widely on the internet, she stressed her humanity and stated that she does not merit the negative reactions.

Adebayo explained that her choice to disclose the separation was deliberate, intended to thwart misleading narratives and take charge of her own narrative.

She also shared that she had notified her estranged husband about the announcement beforehand, and he recognises that she is not the person people are portraying her to be.

“I am human. The other time I posted about my marriage, it was because I didn’t want people to tell my story for me, yet you all used it against me.

“I told my husband before I posted, so he was aware of the post. He knows I am not what people say I am, but God will reward everyone”, she said in both English and Yoruba.

The actress had previously announced her separation from her husband, stating they’ve been apart since April 2024.

She said despite the challenges, they’re committed to co-parenting their son peacefully.
