Mbappé, in his debut season with Los Blancos, netted a crucial goal that not only propelled Madrid to victory but also saw him equal Ronaldo’s feat of scoring in 15 consecutive matches—a benchmark set during Ronaldo’s glittering tenure at the Santiago Bernabéu.
As the stadium erupted, Mbappé dashed to the corner flag, leaping into the air with arms outstretched in Ronaldo’s signature “Siuuu!” pose, sending fans into a frenzy.
Speaking post-match, the French superstar opened up about the gesture, calling Ronaldo “my idol” and “the greatest player in Real Madrid’s history.”
“𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐢𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐨, 𝐦𝐲 𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐥, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐝’𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲.”
Mbappé emphasised the personal bond he shares with Ronaldo, crediting the five-time Ballon d’Or winner for easing his transition to life in Madrid.
“𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐦; 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭-𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞, 𝐡𝐞’𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬.”
The 27-year-old forward, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, described Ronaldo as both a mentor and close confidant.
Mbappé, known for his own flamboyant goal celebrations, made it clear this one was special.
“I have my own celebration, but I wanted to dedicate this to him,” he explained, before extending festive greetings: “Cristiano helped me to adapt here. I want to send him my best wishes, a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”
The moment has already gone viral, with Ronaldo himself reportedly liking Mbappé’s social media post of the goal.
