The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has criticised the judge presiding over his ongoing trial, accusing him of ignorance of Nigerian law and disrespect for the constitution.

Captured on video inside the courtroom, Kanu angrily challenged the judge, holding up the Nigerian constitution and demanding, “You have no idea what justice means, you don’t know what justice means.”

He added, “Your own constitution you don’t respect, Supreme Court judgement, you don’t respect, so why are we in the court of law I asked, nonsense.”

Kanu further warned anyone trying to calm him down, saying, “Don’t try that rubbish, don’t try it.”

In a heated tirade, he accused the court of being filled with “useless black people” who “don’t know law,” and insisted, “You think you can jail me, you are dreaming, you are dreaming.”

Following his complaints, the judge ordered the court’s registry to be temporarily relocated to his courtroom to allow for the filing of documents.

However, the government counsel Adegboyega Awomolo reportedly confirmed readiness to receive and respond to Kanu’s defence documents in court.

Kanu had previously refused to open his defence, demanding to see the specific terrorism law he is accused of violating.

He faces terrorism charges linked to his separatist activities.

Arrested in 2015, Kanu fled Nigeria after bail in 2017 but was rearrested in 2021 and remains in the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS).
