Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has unleashed a critique of the federal government’s tax reform bill at a public event, accusing lawmakers of shoving through sweeping changes without transparency or input from state governors.
In a viral video clip, Makinde declared to thunderous applause, “We don’t know what was passed. We don’t know what was signed.”
His words underscore growing frustration among governors over President Bola Tinubu’s push to overhaul Nigeria’s convoluted tax system, which aims to merge over 60 fragmented levies into a more streamlined framework.
Makinde didn’t hold back, lambasting the process as a blatant sidelining of state leaders.
“This is being pushed through without transparency and has sidelined governors,” he emphasised.
