‘We stood by her till end,’ Dangote mourns Phyna’s sister, Ruth’s death

The Dangote Group has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was critically injured in a recent road accident involving one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State.
In an official statement released Sunday evening, the conglomerate said, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State. On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time.”
The statement highlighted the company’s commitment to Ruth from the moment of the accident stressing, “Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family.”
Plans had been in place for Ruth to receive specialised treatment abroad.
“Arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors.”
Despite these extensive efforts and Ruth’s courageous fight, the company confirmed the tragic outcome: “Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today.”
The Dangote Group underscored that this tragedy has reinforced its dedication to safety and compassion.
“At Dangote Group, safety, accountability, and compassion remain at the core of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy,” it added.
The statement concluded with a call for peace for the departed: “May God grant her mercy and eternal rest.”
