Afrobeat singer, Ahmed Ololade, well known as Asake has explained his choice for singing in Yoruba.
Asake in a recent Instagram interactive session with fans, underscored that while he is capable of singing in English, he feels more comfortable and authentic expressing himself through his native language.
Asake clarified that those who do not appreciate his Yoruba lyrics should abstain from listening to his music.
Asake could be heard saying “I am more comfortable singing in Yoruba, it’s not that I can’t sing in English. If you fuck with me, fuck with me with my Yoruba. If not, then don’t.”
Meanwhile, the singer’s albums so far including ‘Mr Money With The Vibes,’ ‘Work of Art,’ and ‘Lungu Boy,’ largely feature Yoruba lyrics.
However, his song titled ‘Amapiano’ received a Grammy Award nomination, showcasing the universal appeal of his music.
On August 11, Dailyeconomy reported that Asake disclosed how Wizkid ended up being featured on the opening track of his album Lungu Boy.
