England head coach, Thomas Tuchel has explained his decision to recall Harry Maguire and call up Kobbie Mainoo to the national squad, praising their contributions to Manchester United’s strong form under interim manager Michael Carrick.
Tuchel, who took over as England boss in January 2025, highlighted the duo’s impact during United’s unbeaten run since January 2026.
“Man United are doing great under Carrick, Maguire and Kobbie have been big part of that run,” Tuchel said.
The German coach described both players as “new players” to him, emphasising the need for close observation ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
“They are ‘new players’ to me, I wanna see them on the pitch and see them around other players before World Cup decisions,” he added.
This call-up marks Maguire’s return after periods of inconsistent selection.
