The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, declared that he has no plan to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election in Oyo State.
Adedeji announced this during the New Year service at his church in Iwo Ate, Ogo-Oluwa Local Government Area of Oyo.
Several reports have been circulating about the possibility of Adedeji joining the gubernatorial race even though he has not made any public announcement.
In December 2024, the Peoples Democratic Party Youth Coalition for Good Governance accused the FIRS chairman of being distracted by his supposed political aspirations.
However, during the New Year service, Adedeji addressed the matter, stating that he had fulfilled his duties as Oyo Commissioner for Finance under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
He also called on supporters to pray so he could excel in his current role.
He said, “I want to respond to a lot of requests. I, Zacch Adedeji, will not contest for the governorship election in 2027.
“I know a lot of people will not be happy about this but everybody that knows the responsibility and grace that Almighty has given to us… I was commissioner of finance 14 years ago and by that time, with the grace of God, we’d done all God wanted us to do in the state.
“He has given us that platform so the only thing I need from you is the prayer that in what I’m doing now, that the Lord gives me strength. So, I would not want to be distracted.”
