Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), blaming prolonged internal crises, leadership rifts, and structural weaknesses in the PDP for stalling effective governance and development.

The move, confirmed in a joint press release from the Zamfara State Government and APC stakeholders today, came after wide-ranging consultations with political leaders, elders, and supporters statewide.

It was sealed at a high-level meeting at Government House in Gusau, led by the Deputy Governor and attended by senior officials.

Governor Lawal reaffirmed his commitment to delivering peace, security, and sustainable progress for Zamfara residents.

“We must align with a platform that fosters unity, stability, and robust federal partnerships to bring real benefits to our people,” he stated, underscoring the need for stronger ties with the Federal Government.

While thanking PDP members for their past support, Lawal cited “present political realities” and unresolved party conflicts as driving the “bold step” for the state’s future.

The statement urged citizens, leaders, and supporters to stay calm and peaceful, portraying the defection as a pathway to greater unity, better security, faster development, and enhanced federal collaboration.
